Fretwork panels

Decorative routing needs a controlled pattern library and structural rules.

Understand how tool diameter, minimum web, borders, material, open area and finish control a safe fretwork panel.

The clear version

What this part of DIY Joinery is for.

Fretwork can extend DIY Joinery into cabinet inserts, decorative screens, ventilation panels and radiator grilles. It also creates geometry and handling risks that a generic image upload cannot control.

01

Curated patterns

Every design needs a stable identity and version.

The same pattern ID must always resolve to the approved geometry, tool assumptions, border and minimum feature rules.

02

Structural envelope

Open area cannot be separated from material strength.

Minimum bridges, corners, border width, panel size and material thickness determine whether a routed panel can be machined, finished, packed and installed reliably.

03

Customer artwork

Uploaded graphics must not become executable toolpaths.

Future custom patterns should be converted into a safe internal representation, inspected and approved before any manufacturing output is created.

Product programme

Begin with a small, tested library.

A controlled launch is more useful than an unlimited pattern picker with unknown outcomes.

01

Approve core patterns

Test a small set across the intended sizes, materials and finishes.

02

Publish real constraints

Expose only the borders, scale and envelopes that physical samples support.

03

Add reviewed custom work

Route non-library geometry through a separate engineering service.

Pattern evidence

What must be defined before customer configuration.

These values belong to a factory-owned pattern recipe.

  1. 01Pattern and revision identifier
  2. 02Tool diameter and corner radius
  3. 03Minimum bridge and outer border
  4. 04Maximum open area and panel envelope
  5. 05Approved material and thickness
  6. 06Finish, handling and packaging method

Useful detail

Common questions.

Can I upload an SVG or DXF and order it directly?

No. Customer geometry must not become an executable machine instruction without safe conversion and technical approval.

Will every pattern scale to every panel size?

No. Tool size, bridges, border, open area and material strength create pattern-specific limits.

What projects could use approved fretwork?

Potential applications include cabinet inserts, screens, grilles, ventilation panels and decorative doors, subject to the product-specific review.

Pattern enquiry

Discuss a decorative panel through engineering review.

Include the application, overall size, quantity, visual reference, material and finish expectations.
